Gen 1 Chapter 1

I sighed in happiness at the sight of my new house. Admittedly it was small but it was mine, it belonged to me Paige Elizabeth Auburn, that's all that mattered. My Mother's recent death had devastated me, it hadn't taken long until I'd chosen to move away from all the bad memories. Sunset Valley seemed a perfect place for a clean slate, hopefully I would be left to blend in and make my own paths.

Unfortunately, I knew that if I were to survive in this small town I had to at least befriend the neighbours. From what I heard I had brought the house next to the Frios.

After a few minutes waiting by the front door I was invited in. "You're Paige right?" my neighbour who I'd learnt to be called Jared asked.
"How on earth do you know that?" I responded quite confused.
"Oh everyone knows, the whole of Sunset Valley has been gossiping about your arrival for quite some time now." I blushed. Well there went my plan for just blending in.

"So what's your story?" he laughed, clearly amused at the deep shade of red my cheeks had flushed.

 "My story?"
"Well most people don't just up and move without reason, go on tell me!" To be honest Jared seemed awfully pushy though I knew that was just his way of being polite and making me feel at home. I wasn't good at that I guess, solitude was bliss for me but I attempted at replying.
"I just needed to get away and do something different I guess."
"Ooh sounds like a fun choice!" How wrong could he be? "You know what you should do? Have a party, in fact I'll host one for you here, like a moving present!"
He rambled off about how great it would be and that he would make a special cake for the occasion, I just smiled and nodded not having the heart to tell this new found friend that it would be rather awkward for me. "What do you think?" He offered, grinning from ear to ear obviously thinking his idea was genius!

"Well.." I struggled to find the words. Luckily at that point the doorbell sounded and Jared excused himself to see who was at the door. I took that moment to make myself scarce and disappear upstairs.

Typical to my luck, I found somebody else upstairs too, most likely Jared's brother, Conner, who he had mentioned about inviting a few times in conversation. "Er, sorry I was just looking," I fumbled almost tripping to walk away.

He moaned slightly, "You can sit here if you really want. It's a free world." So I walked over and sat beside him on the sofa.
Silence. Just the way I liked it.

"My name is Conner by the way." he mumbled not really making much eye contact.
"Your brother mentioned." I fidgeted for a second before tightening my bobble in my hair. "You often sit here watching a blank screen?" I smiled, it was something I would do I guess.

     "You got any better plans?"
"Nah, not really but it seems your brother does."
"Is he party planning already? You don't like it I take?"
"Yeah he has a house warming party organised, it's not that I intend to be antisocial but you know it would be so much better to have my nose in a good book or something." I shrugged trying to be casual. Conner just looked at me knowingly.

"You read my mind, kind of glad you did. Jared is nice and all but he really doesn't understand why I like being left alone instead of wasting my time dancing to the latest "hits". He and I have always differed but he's a good guy."
"Oh I wouldn't be able to comment, I mean I have never had siblings. I'd have killed for a little sister though." It was true, when I was just a little girl I would play as if my dolls were sisters and I had to look after them all, it was quite fun.
Looking around the room I saw a brand new PSP, my eyes gleamed, I had been wanting to play on one for a while but with the move I was short for cash to say the least.
"You want to play?" he asked gesturing for the remote.

We played for an hour or so on a sports game new release. Conner didn't know the definition of going easy; in fact he thrashed me three times before I managed to win one game.

I hadn't realised the time when Jared returned with a large smirk smothered across his face. He coughed a little to catch our attention. "Ahem."
"Oh my goodness, I am so sorry Jared I just kind of wandered off."
"No it's fine, glad to see you have brought out the social side of my brother, he hardly ever talks to guests. You pulled there mate?" I blushed an even deeper red than before.
"I should be going, it's quite late and I need to get some good sleep tonight. Bye Conner, hope to see you soon yeah? See you too Jared."

I rushed out but not before I heard Jared singing stupid love songs to his brother. It was nonsense, Conner was just a good friend to chat to. I guess he kind of understood about not wanting to be over crowded. Anyway Jared could think whatever he wanted.
As I snuggled down deep in my covers I laughed, Sunset Valley might actually be fun.
